About Us...

Greater Richmond, Virginia Domestic Rabbit Rescue is here to help!

If you’re interested in adopting, fostering, or volunteering in the RVA area, we’d love to hear from you.

We got our start in the spring of 2023, sparked by what we now call a “bunny explosion”—when a rabbit is misgendered, leading to an unexpected litter. We quickly learned these surprise “fluffles” happen far more often than people realize. Rabbits can reproduce as early as 3 months old and every 28 days after that, yet many new owners are caught off guard—especially since many pet stores and breeders don’t offer proper guidance.

After reaching out to local shelters and rescues, we found that few had space—and some didn’t take rabbits at all. So, we stepped up. We made posters, launched social media accounts, and even created a Tinder profile for the bunnies! Before long, people were contacting us: some looking to rehome their rabbits, others needing advice after finding a stray.

It became clear there was a real need for rabbit-focused rescue in our area. What began with one family quickly grew into something much bigger. As of October 14, 2024—nearly a year since we officially incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit—we’ve found homes for 44 bunnies, with 30 still in our care thanks to our amazing foster families.

A few important notes:

We do not sell rabbits. We ask for an adoption fee, which helps cover the cost of care—including food, housing, and veterinary services—and keeps our rescue running.

We primarily work with other rescues and shelters that aren’t equipped to care for rabbits or that are full. You’re welcome to reach out if you’re hoping to surrender a rabbit, but please be aware we’re a small, foster-based operation and likely won’t have immediate space.
