About us

Greater Richmond, Virginia Domestic Rabbit Rescue is here to help! If you’re interested in adopting, fostering, or volunteering in the RVA area, we’d love to hear from you.

We started in the spring of 2023, sparked by a situation we call a “bunny explosion”—when a bunny is misgendered, leading to an unexpected litter. We quickly discovered that these “fluffles” happen all too often. With rabbits able to reproduce as early as 3 months and every 28 days, many new owners are unprepared, especially since many places selling rabbits don’t offer adequate guidance.

After reaching out to shelters and rescues in the area, we found no one had room—or in some cases, didn’t take rabbits at all. So, we stepped up. We created posters, launched social media accounts, and even tried making a Tinder account for the bunnies! Before long, people began contacting us about their rabbits—either to rehome them or ask for advice after finding a stray.

It was clear there was a real need for this service. What began with one family quickly grew into something larger. As of October 14, 2024—almost a year since our nonprofit incorporation as a 501c3, we’ve found homes for 44 bunnies, with 30 still in our care with the help our fosters.
